This ceramic souvenir pendant from Visegrád, Hungary is an inexpensive travel keepsake with an estimated market value $10 USD.

Because it is a mass-produced, modern tourist souvenir rather than a fine jewelry piece or rare antique, its secondary monetary value is low. Its primary appeal lies in its regional significance and folklore symbolism.

Symbolism: The Raven and the Ring

The design depicts the paternal coat of arms of the House of Hunyadi, most famously associated with King Matthias Corvinus (who ruled Hungary and Croatia in the late 15th century). "Corvinus" derives from the Latin word for raven (corvus). According to Hungarian legend, a raven once stole a golden ring from the king. He tracked the bird down, retrieved the ring, and subsequently adopted the raven with a golden ring in its beak as his personal heraldic emblem.

This symbol is prominently featured on monuments throughout Hungary—including the historic Visegrád Castle, where King Matthias once expanded and heavily renovated the royal palace
